2018 Composition Competition Winners
The Jury (the final 10 submissions)Anton Armstrong (USA)Javier Busto (Spain)Vytautas Miškinis (Lithuania)Young-Jo Lee (South Korea)  2018 Composition Competition Winners 1st Place: Michał Ziółkowski (Poland) "The Tree of Song"2nd Place: Daniele Di Virgilio (Italy) "Frater, ave atque vale"3rd Place: Sabelo Mthembu (South Africa) "Alleluia Azania"  Brief assessment of a president of the Jury, Young-Jo Lee I am particularly delighted that there are some high quality works this year compared to last year which shows Busan Composition Competition plays a huge role in development of the World Choral Music. All works have a range of texts, strong personality and remarkable harmony which leads to modern sound effects. I feel sorry about the lack of voice role as they are devoted to the color of sound which leads to a stagnant melody and it also causes the lack of the beauty of balance in a through construct as the lyrics define musical structure in choral music. However, I have found that there are some works which show deeply artistic thought this year as well.I define the music is full of meaningful sounds. I assure that all works of this year already reached the higher level and trust to meet more meaning sounds in the future in this competition.  We have got 74 works of 65 applications from 29 countries this year. We highly appreciate their brilliant works which were impressive enough to touch the jury. However, as the Busan Composition Competition much prefers artistically higher quality songs, so the judgement focused on it.  All winners of the 1,2,3 places are invited to join the 2018 Busan Choral Festival & Competition and will receive their Diplomas during an Award Ceremony on Saturday, October 20, 2018.  The Prize Money will be sent to their bank account within 2 weeks after finishing the BCFC.  The first prize winner's work will be performed on OCT 20th, 2018.  As a member of the 2018 BCFC, they will be entitled to participate in all the Festival activities including the Choral Competition, Choral Workshops and additional performances. If there is any winner who cannot join the Festival, the BCFC committee will mail the Diploma via First Class Mail to the address provided in the Application Form.  Congratulations!

Young composers use their personality and blend music and language effectively which leads to an excellent effect. It is outstanding that both an expression of new senses and a line of sound. However, we should be careful of sacrificing music itself with an excessive technique considering a chorus is based on lyrics and human voices.  All winners of the 1,2,3 places are invited to join the 2017 Busan Choral Festival & Competition and will receive their Diplomas during an Award Ceremony on Saturday, September 9, 2017. 2016 Composition Competition Winners
Winners of the 3rd Busan Composition Competition  1st Place: Bjöern Griesheimer (Germany): "Miraclum maximum"2nd Place: Chan-Kyeong Seong (S. KOREA): "Nire"3rd Place: Alvaro Herran (Colombia): "Dawn Chorus" We have got 69 works of 63 applications from 28 countries this year;Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Thailand, USA, UK, Ukraine We highly appreciate their brilliant  works which were impressive enough to touch the judge.  However, as the Busan Composition Competition much prefers artistically higher quality songs, so the judgement focused on it. It is great that the ability of composers in the Busan Choral Festival & Composition has been improving year by year. A balance between voices which is essential for Choral Music, high organizational skills and brand new harmony are one of them. They all show a high standard even though the development of the story is somewhat incomplete as it is bounded by lyrics. However, considering that the BCFC is more a culture-exchange opportunity for choristers from all around the world than just a competition, it would be better if there was some more modern works based on their folklore as cultural art could be developed by fiery newness which come from the one of mine and others.  All winners of the 1,2,3 places are invited to join the 2016 Busan Choral Festival & Competition and will receive their Diplomas during an Award Ceremony on Saturday, October 21, 2016. The Prize Money will be sent to their bank account within 2 weeks after finishing the BCFC. The first prize winner's work will be performed by The Metropolitan Chorus of Tokyo conducted by Ko Matsushita (subject to change) during their concert on OCT 20th, 2016.    As a member of the 2016 BCFC, they will be entitled to participate in all the Festival activities including the Choral Competition, Choral Workshops and additional performances.  If there is any winner who cannot join the Festival, the BCFC committee will mail the Diploma via First Class Mail to the address provided in the Application Form.  Congratulations!
