However, I want you to keep in mind that there are lyrics in choral music. I hope you try to make a bold escape from the skills so that you can make your work "meaningful sound as a consequence" with the lyrics.Young-Jo LeePresident of the 2022 Busan Choral Composition Competition judging panel  -------------Dear Composers, Many congratulations to all of you on being a finalist in the 2022 Busan Choral Composition Competition.Thank you for the work you have all done. There were a great variety of works and they showed a good deal of imagination, colour and ingenuity. A few thoughts came to mind that you might all find helpful. Remember to make the shape and the gesture of the piece understandable to the conductor, the judge or the listener, so that it clearly reflects the narrative that the composer is aiming for. Also, perhaps consider practicality in terms of scoring, range, voicing and linear shape. All of these things help our pieces get performed, which is what all we composers want!Keep up the good work and all best wishes.Bob ChilcottComposer and Conductor, Oxford, UKPresident of the 2022 Busan Choral Festival & Competition judging panel-----We have got 45 works of 45 applications from 22 countries this year. We highly appreciate their brilliant works which were impressive enough to touch the jury. However, as the Busan Composition Competition much prefers artistically higher quality songs, so the judgement focused on it.  All winners of the 1,2,3 places will receive their Diplomas and Trophies by post.  The Prize Money will be sent to their bank account within 2 weeks after finishing the BCFC.  Only the top prize winning work will be premiered at the 2022 BCFC in the week of October 19-22, 2022.  Congratulations!

(Portugal) Brief assessment of a president of the Jury, Anton ArmstrongDear Composers,I want to congratulate you on being named a Finalist in the 2021 Busan Choral Composition Competition. As my colleagues and I reviewed the final submissions, many of the compositions seem to be dominated by harmonic progressions favoring texture and color over linear counterpoint among voices. Perhaps a few more passages giving prominence to contrapuntal techniques and conversations between voices would have added variety and balance. Ultimately, the final compositions were well appreciated for their intellectual craftsmanship and ingenuity.  Thank you for your creative work and please know the respect my colleagues and I had for each of your submissions. All best wishes for continued success in your future work,Dr. Anton Armstrong--USAPresident of the 2021 Busan Choral Composition Competition Panel.    We have got 54 works of 54 applications from 28 countries this year. Cancellation of 2020 Busan Choral Festival & Competition/Composition Competition
Dear BCFC Friends,  The Board of 2020 Busan Choral Festival & Competition/Composition Competition feels very sorry to announce that we have decided to cancel this year’s event due to COVID-19 pandemic, widely spreading in the world. This decision was very hard for us and disappointed us. But we concluded that it could not be avoided when considering the safety of participants and audience, also uncertain situation for all indoor events including choir’s rehearsals, after careful consideration based on Korea government's recommendation and WHO’s information.   The Busan Choral Composition Competition warmly thanks from the bottom of its heart the more than 40 composers from all over the world who wanted to participate in our composition competition this year, but reasons beyond the capabilities of all of us did not help us in its realization no matter how hard we try. The global liquid economic situations, the health crisis, the inability to prepare are some of the reasons that led us to this decision.  As for the all submitted works for 2020 Busan Choral Composition Competition, they could be competed for 2021 Competition if participants want.   Next year, we’ll have the Busan Choral Festival & Competition from October 20th to 23rd in 2021.   Sending all best wishes during this challenging time in the world.  Best wishes,Yong-Bok DO Chairperson of 2020 Busan Choral Festival & Competition/Composition Competition
