Opening Concert

STILE ANTICO (UK)

Stile Antico burst onto the musical scene in July 2005 with competition success at the York Early Music Festival, and in a single decade has established itself as one of the world's most accomplished and innovative vocal ensembles. Working without a conductor, its twelve members have thrilled audiences across the globe with their fresh, vibrant and moving performances of Renaissance polyphony.

Based in London, Stile Antico is much in demand and enjoys a busy international touring schedule performing at many of the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals, including Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Cité de la Musique, Palais des Beaux Arts, BBC Proms and Boston Early Music Festival. The group has premiered works by Nico Muhly and Huw Watkins, and collaborated with performers as diverse as Fretwork, B’Rock, Marino Formenti and Sting.

Stile Antico’s bestselling recordings on the Harmonia Mundi label have earned numerous accolades including the Gramophone Award for Early Music, the Diapason d’or de l’année, the Edison Klassiek Award and the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and have twice received Grammy® nominations.

GALA CONCERT 1

KORO ILUSTRADO (PHILIPPINES)

Koro Ilustrado is an all-male choir formed in October 2007 and is based in Makati. The choir commits to significantly contribute in nurturing the Philippine’s choral tradition. Its vision is to become the Philippines’ premiere all-male choir by exemplifying the best of the Filipino: excellence, discipline and a flair for entertainment. Inspired by the global spirit and nationalistic dedication of the great ilustrado men during the Spanish colonial times, the choir has built a repertoire that includes the best of local and global all-male choral music. It is composed of men who have extensive choral singing backgrounds through their college, church and community or parish choir experiences. The choir conductors are Anna Tabita Abeleda-Piquero and Edmund Alan Piquero Jr. both alumni of the world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers. Since 2009, Koro Ilustrado has staged major concerts annually and in 2014, the choir mounted for the first time a full concert in Santuario De San Antonio, its home parish, dubbed ‘Higher’ as a thanksgiving and for a charitable cause. The group was also invited as one of the feature choirs for the 2010 Philippine Choral Directors Association National Conference in Davao City and in 2011 Bandung International Choral Workshop in Bandung, Indonesia. In 2013, it released its debut album entitled ‘Sa Iyong Pag-ibig’ under the JesCom label followed by a Christmas album ‘Carol of the Bells: A Christmas A Capella’ in 2014.
