Jerry McCoy

USA | President of the Jury

Jerry McCoy is currently a Visiting Professor of Music at Baylor University (USA) and Artis tic Director/Conductor of the Fort Worth Chorale and Chamber Choir. He is also Regents Professor of Music Emeritus for the University of North Texas (UNT), where between 2000 and 2015 he led the UNT choral program to national and international acclaim while serving as Director of Choral Studies and conductor of the A Cappella Choir. From 2007 to 2015 he served as a member of the National Executive Committee for the 20,000-member American Choral Directors Association, serving as the organization's national president from 2009 to 2011. His work in the international choral community includes appearances in Austria, Canada, China, Cuba, France, Great Britain, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, and Venezuela. He has served as the headliner for the Korean Federation for Choral Music Conference (2010) and led the University of North Texas A Cappella Choir in performances for the 2nd annual Daejeon International Choral Festival (2012). He is honored to have conducted performances of professional choirs in Incheon, Bucheon (twice), Daejeon, and Taegu. His commercial recordings have been released by GIA Music Publications and CD Baby. Guest engagements for 2016/17 include appearances in Canada, South Korea, and the USA (Alabama, Delaware, California, New York City, and Texas).

Bengt Ollén

Sweden

Bengt Ollén is Sofia Vokalensemble’s founder and constant conductor. Since 1995 he’s led the vocal ensemble with great passion and a never-dying enthusiasm. His leadership has formed Sofia Vokalensemble to a positive and resolute choir through musical development. Bengt’s vision is to create music “beyond the notes.” The music that the choir presents shall not only consist of beautiful rings and fine musical interpretations. The music shall also move the listener. Therefore each singer’s commitment is a very important piece in the musical progress. Bengt constantly works on strengthening the choir’s group dynamics. Bengt has studied under Gösta Ohlin and Gunnar Eriksson at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg and in 1981 he formed the Vocal ensemble Amanda. Studies in orchestra-conducting under Lennart Hedvall, Jorma Panula, Robert Reynolds and Everett Lee. Bengt is also the founder and the conductor of Södra Dalarnas Chamber Orchestra. Yearly this orchestra take part in the festival ‘Musik vid Siljan’. Bengt is frequently engaged as adjudicator in competitions, guest teacher and as conductor at festivals, workshops and concerts, nationally and internationally. Since 1994 he is working as a teacher of choir singing at the international well known Stockholms Musikgymnasium. With his choirs he has achieved great success in the choir competition around the world.

Seung-Tae Ahn

Korea

Earned B.M. degree from Keimyung University and M.M. degree from Seoul National University in South Korea. He also earned P.G.D. from Brooklyn Concervatory of Music and studied choral and orchestra conducting at the Julliard School and Brooklyn Academy of Music. He worked as a professor of College of Music, Catholic University of Daegu and conductor of Daegu City Choir, Daejeon City Choir and Changwon City Choir. He also worked as a visiting conductor for several city choirs including Busan, Gwangju and Suwon, etc, and some city orchestra including Daegu, Daejeon and Changwon. He has been very successful in Modern Music. He led the Daegu City Choir in performance of the piece of Krzysztof Penderecki for Daegu Modern Music Festival and got a great compliment from him who was there. He and his choir was also visited by Live Music Festival, Krakow, Poland. As for his compositions, there are several works including a musical piece of 'Yeon-O-Rang & Se-O-Nyeo', some cantatas 'Song of Light' and '6 Rural Sketches for Piano', and CDs 'Missa for AILM', '8 Great Views in Daejeon' and 'Daegu MBC New Collieciton of Songs Series #1~5', etc. He was awarded the Grand Prize in Daegu Music Award by Daegu Music Association and the same one in Choral Music by Daegu Choral Music Association. He is leading the Daegu City Choir with fine musical interpretations and great passion.

In-Gi Min

Korea

In-Gi Min, majored in composition at the College of Music, Yonsei University in Korea. He received a Master’s Degree in conducting from New York University and subsequently commenced a doctorate on choral conducting at the University of Southern California in 1990. He was awarded a Doctor of Musical Arts in choral music & conducting. He served as a guest conductor for the most professional choirs in Korea such as Seoul Metropolitan Chorus, Gwangju Civic Chorale, Bucheon Philharmonic Chorus, Ansan City Choir, etc and has been highly acclaimed as 'an excellent conductor with accurate interpretation and emotion'. He served as a professor of choral conducting & director of choral activities in the College of Music at Dankook University and the Music Department of Honam Theological University and Seminary and its graduate school, teaching choral conducting for last 18 years. He also performed as a music director at Seoul Music Teachers' Choir, Hoshin Concert Choir, etc. He was also in charge of music director at the Somang Presbyterian Church Zion Choir in Seoul for over 10 years and recently appointed as a music director at the Yoido Full Gospel Church Jerusalem Choir. He served as an artistic director and principal conductor of the Suwon Civic Chorale since 2002 for last 14 years. Since 2015, he has served as an artistic director and principal conductor of the Ulsan Metropolitan Profession al Chorus.

Anna Tabita Abeleda Piquero

Philippines

Anna Tabita Abeleda Piquero is an international choral clinician, jury, and a world renowned conductor. She is fondly described by her colleagues as the woman with the Midas Touch, transforming the choirs she handles into beautiful, angelic, award winning choirs. To name three of her choirs who became internationally acclaimed: University of the East Chorale, University of Visayas Chorale, and Koro Ilustrado. It was Koro Ilustrado’s latest international choral stint in the Busan Choral Festival & Competition, Busan, Korea 2015 which earned her the title Best Conductor in the Festival, the choir winning Silver in the Classical Equal Category and Bronze in the Pop & Accapella Category. This also earned her the 2016 Ani ng Dangal for Best Conductor given by the National Commission for Culture and Arts in the Philippines. She was a member and assistant conductor of the U.P Singing Ambassadors, afterwards, a member of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, eventually pursuing her Conducting degree at the Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music and at the University of the Philippines College of Music. She served as an artistic board member of the Philippine Choral Directors Association for 9 years.
